Action learning, and the use of e-portfolios, provides a way to support your professional development in the workplace. Action learning needs to be relevant to key strategic issues facing government in the 21st century that enables innovativeness and personalised learning in our ever increasing knowledge based society. The module aims to enable students to consider, explore and integrate practical and theoretical issues that underpin professional development for communities of practice in a work situation. The module will consider a range of theoretical and practical approaches to professional development with the intention of supporting students to reflect and apply ideas that support the students learning experiences.

Online forums will be used to support the scaffolding of knowledge, understanding and abilities. The teaching style will include video conferencing, discussion forums and activity based learning techniques. The focus of the teaching style will be determined through learning diagnostics, undertaken by students, which will identify learning styles needs. A cooperative learning framework is used as a means of supporting equity for both teaching and learning styles.
