Full course description

The module examines the availability and distribution of various renewable energy resources such as solar thermal, photovoltaic, wind, tidal, ocean, hydroelectric, fuel cells, biomass and others. The module will enable the student to evaluate renewable energy resources in a well-informed way.

Dr Mohammad Khairul Zarifi bin Haji Awang Masri

Dr Mohammad Khairul Zarifi bin Haji Awang Masri is a lecturer in the Physical and Geological Sciences Programme with a specialization in Physics. He obtained a BSc. degree in Physics at the University of Nottingham in 2004 and a MSc. degree in Materials Physics and Applications at Loughborough University in 2006. For his Masters project, he investigated the high strain rate deformation behaviour of Nickel-Titanium shape memory alloys. He received his PhD from the University of St Andrews in 2015 under the supervision of Prof. Ifor Samuel. His PhD focused on exciton dynamics in organic semiconductors where he examined exciton diffusion and exciton-exciton annihilation in organic semiconductor materials important for organic solar cells using mainly ultrafast laser spectroscopy. Dr Zarifi currently has wide-ranging interests in the field of organic semiconductors for optoelectronic applications. More specifically, he is interested in the study of exciton diffusion and photophysics for enhancing organic solar cell device performance

Online forums will be used to support the scaffolding of knowledge, understanding and abilities. The teaching style will include video conferencing, discussion forums and activity based learning techniques. The focus of the teaching style will be determined through learning diagnostics, undertaken by students, which will identify learning styles needs. A cooperative learning framework is used as a means of supporting equity for both teaching and learning styles.
