Description
Students are required to take LE-1503 - Communication Skills I: Academic Reading & Writing Skills before enrolling in this course. This module enables students to understand the structure and tone of an essay; develop basic academic skills in academic referencing, academic vocabulary, academic integrity, grammar and punctuation in communication, paraphrasing, summarizing, and synthesizing information; produce an academic essay which demonstrates academic writing protocols including paraphrasing, summarizing and synthesizing of information; build independent learning skills; and build negotiation and group work skills.
Students will function at approximately the B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR)

Format
Online forums will be used to support the scaffolding of knowledge, understanding and abilities. The teaching style will include video conferencing, discussion forums and activity based learning techniques. The focus of the teaching style will be determined through learning diagnostics, undertaken by students, which will identify learning styles needs. A cooperative learning framework is used as a means of supporting equity for both teaching and learning styles.
